Creating sense and sensuality in buildings

We create interior experiences that convey orientation, information, well-being, sense and sensuality. These are experiences that people perceive as fundamentally positive, pleasant and useful, because their individual needs are met with form and function.

Compelling and atmospherically coherent.

Light, colours, shapes, materials as well as objects and their configuration all serve to characterise the overall impression and presence of the public space. Through individual objects or the furnishing of entire buildings, BURRI specialises in configuring the appearance and use of public interiors in such a way that people enjoy moving through these spaces.

Our credentials at a glance.

Over a period of almost 120 years, we have acquired a great deal of experience and profound know-how in the many different disciplines involved in the design of public interiors. We offer wide-ranging expertise in the following areas:

Smart signage and orientation systems are an essential aid to everyday life. They marshal us purposefully through increasingly complex environments, and do so in a manner that is unobtrusive and natural. “If they are well designed," says design critic and professor Per Mollerup, "then nobody talks about them. But if they're done badly, they can ruin everything." The former is the effect that is accomplished by our signage, orientation and information systems. Their strengths are not consciously perceived. More so, they merge with and are considered a functional part of the surrounding architecture. We have developed, produced and installed highly effective and visually attractive systems for numerous well-known and well-used infrastructures throughout Switzerland.

If orientation systems are well designed, then nobody talks about them. But if they're done badly, they can ruin everything.

Per Mollerup, design critic and professor

In 1946, Alois Burri and Bruno Giacometti (the brother of the famous artist) developed Switzerland’s first standardised poster panel. In 1989, a collaboration with Fritz Gottschalk gave rise to the Soleil poster system, which is still used across all of Switzerland. This was followed by the first poster light box for outdoor areas.Today, our products are valued for their low construction depth, efficient light diffusion modules, outstanding reliability and smart maintenance processes. Our qualities in this area are based above all on the profound experience gained through our cooperation with APG/SGG. The leading Swiss provider of out-of-home media solutions has counted on our services for decades.

Using individual lighting elements or entire systems, our specialists cast interiors in the right light. Our strength is in the development of technical solutions and in the high-quality construction and realisation of custom objects. Thanks to our size, we can also develop and deliver with particular agility. We have all the necessary expertise in the development, production, installation and maintenance of individually tailored lighting solutions.

The perception and impact of the furniture used in buildings should not be underestimated. Furniture that is successful on a formal and functional level makes an essential contribution to the optimal use of the building and to a positive overall experience. The effortless use and agreeable perception of furniture – whether it’s bistro tables, indoor gardens or customised lounge areas – give vibrancy to buildings and foster participation and social interaction between people of different backgrounds and generations. Seen in this way, our items of furniture are quiet achievers as well as aesthetically functional co-facilitators of the quality of (social) life that takes place indoors.

BURRI provides all services relating to the development, production, installation and operation of public elements. We offer a range of financing options (lease and rental) and product test offers. For other providers, service ends after assembly; at BURRI, this is where it truly begins. Our Life Cycle Service ranges from visual inspections, cleaning, maintenance work and technical upgrades, all the way to relaunches, data analyses and investment planning.

This approach maintains the appeal and value of the infrastructure, while its form and function is always up-to-date and up to the task over a period of many years. Which is always in the best interest of the users. And of sustainability.
