Poetic light art in Zofingen

Simply magical, how the installation by light artist Christopher T. Hunziker winds its way along the alley of Junkerbifangstrasse in Zofingen, giving the place its own identity at any time of day or night. Art and lighting harmoniously combined, engineering and craftsmanship executed to perfection.

Particular challenges were the cable suspensions between the buildings as well as the structural details for the 150m long "light snake", taking into account wind, weather and expansion. The cable bracings were planned and executed by Kummler+Matter EVT AG.

An extruded aluminium profile was specially developed and bent for the light snake, which can accommodate the IP 67 encapsulated LED light snake. The 5m long luminaire elements are seamlessly butted and suspended and secured to the cable bracing with special brackets, so that the entire luminaire can expand according to the temperatures.

The light distribution is designed in such a way that the footpath and cycle path are sufficiently illuminated, reflecting stray light laterally and shading it towards the buildings. The RGBW light snake can be controlled in any colour via an intelligent control system. Power supply units and controls are located in easily accessible housings on the building.

Many thanks to Christopher T. Hunziker, Frei Architekten AG and Kummler & Matter EVT AG for the professional and pleasant collaboration.
