The benefits of separating the standpipe and overhang via coupling:

Low stock levels for standpipes / convenient storage and transport / better quality galvanizing / use of the same standpipe for diverse lighting requirements / trouble-free change of the overhang, e.g. from street luminaire to rectangular or upright lights and luminaires.
