Signage & traffic guidance systems

Orientation systems as a functional component of architecture

When we are guided through cities, transport hubs such as railway stations and airports, or cultural institutions and shopping centres, the matter of signage is so much more than a hospitable gesture. Alongside visitor perception, signage is also about business. This can only be conducted properly if the customer, passenger or visitor is specifically able to find their destination. Trustworthy guidance systems fulfil their task without attracting attention. “If they are well designed,” emphasises design critic and Professor Per Mollerup, “nobody will mention them. But if they are poorly done, it can ruin everything.”
