Children and young people generally want to make their own way to kindergarten, school, or sports activities. This has been proven to promote their development in terms of independence and self-efficacy—yet it is often a delicate undertaking because it is difficult for children to realistically assess the dangers of road traffic.
The reflective metal silhouette PIETO is a simple and appealing way to alert drivers to the presence of children on the road. Studies have shown that the silhouette, which is the size of a 6-year-old child, automatically triggers the “protective instinct” in adults, causing them to intuitively drive more slowly and carefully. PIETO is suitable for school and sports areas to indicate pedestrian crossings. In 30 km/h zones where there are no pedestrian crossings, it can be used to identify places where children frequently cross the road – often marked with “footprints” on the sidewalk.
PIETO is a clearly visible sign for children that they can safely cross the road here – and for drivers, even in the dark winter months, it is a sign visible from afar to pay particular attention to the most vulnerable road users.
