Refit instead of replacement

For municipalities and lighting designers, sustainable planning does not always mean new construction—it can also mean smart redevelopment. The targeted modernization of existing infrastructure offers ecological and economic advantages while maintaining the same design quality.

Over 100 handrail lights at Storchenbrücke in Winterthur have been technically upgraded. New LED modules, new optics, and new drivers bring the system up to the current state of the art. The change from 5000K to 4000K ensures a more balanced lighting atmosphere in public spaces.

Instead of replacing the specially shaped aluminum housings, the existing ones were deliberately cleaned and reused—a clear sign of resource conservation. This is because aluminum causes high CO₂ emissions during production. In this case, refit means maximum effect with minimum use of materials.
