The megatrend map is an overview of the most important global developments that has been produced for many years by the Zukunftsinstitut from Germany. A megatrend is defined as a development that affects the lives of many people worldwide and has a lifespan of at least 30 years. The current version of the megatrend map describes 12 such trends.

A closer look at the megatrend map reveals that there is an incredibly high number of trends associated with the topic of "public spaces". A corresponding marking of all trends with a red circle visualizes this clearly: The red circles are omnipresent.
No wonder that the United Nations has also recognized this and integrated it into its Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Public spaces are anchored in Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and play a very important role there.
