Monitor cubes for Swiss Main Stations
Over the course of this project, BURRI and Kilchenmann worked together to develop, manufacture and assemble an entirely new product in the short-est possible time, including all of the engineering. In close cooperation with the client, the monitor cubes and prototype were developed and implemented in just four months.
From a technical perspective, the monitor cubes fit smoothly into the family of existing monitor columns. A particular challenge was the integration of the 85-inch monitors in such a way to make the side edges appear maximally slim, thus also making the cubes look as slender as possible. Aided by technical tricks and specific design features, the integration into the overall appear-ance of Zurich’s main station has been a success.
To test all of the details and technol-ogy in advance, BURRI first created a prototype, which involved the instal-lation of four 85-inch monitors be-hind ESG glass and the affixing of sheet metal cladding to all four sides of the plinth. Also in the finished product, this approach enables the straightforward maintenance of the monitors at any time.
