Limmattalbahn light rail line – Identification and quality of life

The first stage of the light rail line has been in operation since 2019. Now, the construction of the entire stopping point infrastructure, bicycle parking and route lighting for the second stage is in full swing at BURRI.

The Limmattalbahn line connects the Limmat Valley municipalities and the canton of Aargau with the canton of Zurich, and conversely the city with the surrounding conurbation. The line represents the backbone of the Limmat Valley identity and serves to greatly improve the quality of life for residents as well as make urban centres more appealing and communities more lively.

As a competence centre for the public space, BURRI is pleased to be putting not only the stopping point infrastructure in place, but also the bicycle parking infrastructure and entire route lighting, which comprises LOOP LED catenary suspended luminaires. In addition to all this, BURRI will be equipping the key transport hubs in the project environment with traffic control systems and masts.

The total of 54 stopping points assume a central role in the overall project. At intervals of around 500 metres, these points are the most prominent identity-bearers, and indicate the visibility and findability of public transport access and help create a uniform identity for the entire region.

As a total contractor for bus stop infrastructure, BURRI public elements AG is implementing the entire project, from planning to production. The architectural implementation is taking place in cooperation with the architectural office 10:8.
