The planning hexagon of the VBG (local transport authority) provides clarity

As full-service general contractor for the superstructures, BURRI public elements has significantly contributed to the implementation of this quality system of the local transport authority Verkehrsbetriebe Glattalbahn (VBG): fitness for use in all urban scenarios, social sustainability with a view to the most diverse requirements, safety in all elements and interfaces, environmental sustainability as early as in the production phase, durability as public investment and finally profitability across the entire lifecycle. 
Increasing demands on the safety of the system are taken into account as much as the complete implementation of the Swiss Equality for Disabled Persons Act.

Standardised process chain from design to installation

A project of the size and complexity of the Glattalbahn Light Rail only works on the basis of a close co-operation of the partners. For BURRI public elements these were planners, architects, authorities and business partners from structural engineering as well as civil and underground engineering, who have worked on the various objectives regarding construction, planning, business as well as residential and transportation policy. During the construction period varied technical and legal questions with respect to procedures had to be co-ordinated. Even in the event of unexpected difficulties solutions were quickly found time and again and the project remained on target with regard to schedule and tenor.

Solutions with room for future requirements and developments

The highlights are special mountings of steel plates weighing 750kg without visible bolts, special resistant anti-graffiti powder coating, roof/railing tube lights IP65 with 45,000 lighting hours irrespective of length, transparent glass for bird protection, roof glass with silk screen for transparency and sun protection, as well as multi-functional railway stop/ bridge railing for optimum potential equalisation and low stray current. All CCM modules such as ticket machines, loudspeakers, BURRI information and LED illuminated poster light boxes, electrical and communication systems, swing-out waste bins, vent pipes, drainage, etc. were integrated flush into the wall panels.

Efficient production as basis for smooth installation

The Glattalbahn railway stops unite versatile components and surfaces in their modules. They require a broad field of expertise: Thanks to its in-house development and engineering department, BURRI public elements combines materials technology and electrical engineering, metal construction and engineering services, lighting solutions and service and maintenance planning. Central requests by the client were taken into account early on in the project management with numerous integrated suppliers. Our on-site production, completed with selected partners and well-established installation teams secured high flexibility and adherence to schedules for the client.

Investment, maintenance and service under control

The lifecycle vision demonstrates a responsible-minded cost structure

The railway stop infrastructure only accounts for approximately two percent of the overall investments in the Glattalbahn Light Rail. However, these significantly decide on the image. Misinvestments would take aesthetic and financial vengeance in this case. Therefore, already in the early planning stages BURRI public elements has constructively taken into account the cost aspect in production, installation, service and in the maintenance over the entire lifecycle through material selection and handling. Future installations can be made without depreciation of the matter and new, energy-saving technologies (LED instead of fluorescent tubes) can be retrofitted as upgrades.
