Mobile and contemporary seating for Lucerne’s inner city

The great seating test

The city of Lucerne is looking to enhance and revitalise its neglected public spaces through a new approach to mobile furniture.

The parks and public areas of numerous European cities have long featured seats and loungers that can be carried to different locations – for example, to while away the time under in the shade of a tree. This will soon also be possible in Lucerne. In place of classic, fixed mounted benches, the city is testing mobile seating with the aim of enhancing its public spaces. A novelty of the scheme is that the people of Lucerne are being asked to help decide which seats they find the most beautiful, the most pleasant and the most suitable. The various seating options can be found and tested at the Kornmarkt, the pavilion at Kurplatz, in Stadthauspark and in the Tribschenstadt district.

BURRI public elements had the privilege selecting a range of exciting products, namely the Plico round bench, square Sol, the Stella chair and the Landi ergo lounger.
