Oak oiled

Oak is one of the most distinctive hardwoods in Central Europe. The wood is characterized by a striking grain and warm yellow to brown tones – combined with excellent mechanical properties and high wear resistance. This makes oak particularly suitable for surfaces that have to withstand heavy everyday use. In public spaces, oak impresses with its robust feel and high quality. Depending on the product concept, oak can also be used in curved form: steam bending involves heating the wood and shaping it – ideal for radii, curves, and organic seat geometries. Like natural wood in general, oak changes outdoors due to weathering and UV light: if left untreated, a silver-gray patina develops over time; oiled or glazed surfaces retain their warm character for longer and can be refreshed as needed. Due to its tannin content, oak can develop dark discoloration when it comes into contact with ferrous metals (in combination with moisture) – therefore, suitable fasteners (e.g., stainless steel) and clean construction details are recommended.

Oiled oak is well suited for outdoor use, as the oil penetrates deep into the wood, protects it from moisture, and emphasizes its natural grain. Pigmented oils also delay graying caused by UV radiation, although regular maintenance is required. Since the color effect outdoors may differ from the color catalog, samples should be created and tested in advance.
